More about Julia Shaw

Once Upon A Time...........

There was a woman from Derbyshire who had been practising Yoga on and off since her early 20's.  After a very frightening experience with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy in the year 2000 - she was then aged 45 - after recovery - she just knew it was time to change direction and re-train as a Yoga Teacher.    Prior to that, she was a Therapist and also trained Counsellors and worked as an Assessor of Counselling Courses all over the UK.

A mother of 3 - and with the heart felt support of her family, so thankful she had survived the harrowing near death experience - she found herself, in disbelief - on a British Wheel of Yoga Training Course - in a  room of like minded people - all with their own story of how they became trainee Yoga Teachers.

Naturally - never taking the easy path - at the end of her training,  she found herself, husband and youngest child,  moving to the Outer Hebrides, Scotland!   To a very remote area on top of a cliff.    She still  had to fulfil a certain amount of teaching hours, still submit written work, become used to a totally new way of life, and sit in awe and gratitude,  looking out on the Atlantic Ocean - again in disbelief at the wonder of it all.    Two amazing Grandsons later, and the struggles that come with an Adult son with Special needs, she is still learning about Yoga and healing and just wants to carry on teaching.  Mindful that her body cannot do all it once could, with ease......   the secret seems to be........... to keep moving!   Keep those joints healthy, keep up some strength work,  cardio, and of course, the dog walks and gardening!

Present Day - September 2026

Well that is a very shortened version of those years.   Now I am 71!!     How did that happen ??

Over the years I have gradually stopped teaching in the traditional way I was taught.   That can only come with experience, wisdom and understanding how Yoga works.    I am grateful for all that.    I personally, have learnt to embrace my ageing process.    Refuse to give in to a lot of it!    And I just want to pass on to others, that Yoga can be adapted to our changing bodily needs.    Its not about making 'shapes' with the body, its about how you feel, and how you can get more in touch with how you feel.

I hope you try out a free online class sometime, just as a trial to see if you like this slow style of yoga and that you benefit from Online practice too.    Take care of yourself.     Warmly, Julia xx
